A Laurel man was shot dead after an encounter at a McDonald's drive thru in Seaford on Sunday night, Delaware State Police say.

Investigators said the 31-year-old man "encountered a group of individuals also in the drive-thru" at the McDonald's on Route 20 just off Route 13. Police did not describe the details of the encounter but said it continued in an adjacent parking lot. Someone in the group shot the man, then the group fled.

Officers were called to the scene around 8:59 p.m., where they found the man with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police said they didn't have any information on suspects in the case. They asked anyone who witnessed what happened or has information to contact Detective Mark Ryde at 302-741-2730 or mark.ryde@delaware.gov, messaging Delaware State Police on Facebook or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.

The man has not been identified pending notification of family.
