Greenwood will elect 3 council members; deadline to file is Friday
By Andrew Sharp
More than half of Greenwood's council seats are coming up for a vote, and the deadlines to file as a candidate or register as a voter are fast approaching.
The town announced its upcoming election will be held 1-7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022.
The deadline for candidates to file is 5 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 10, so the town hasn't released a list of candidates yet. The seats up for election are held by Norman Reed, Donald Torbert and Vice Mayor Willard Russell.
Candidates need to notify Town Manager Janet Todd in writing; either by filling out a candidate notice form at the town office, or by downloading the form, filling it out and sending it to P.O. Box 216, Greenwood, DE 19950. (It needs to be notarized if it's not filled out at the town office.)
Candidates have to be at least 21 years old and U.S. citizens. They also need to have been a town resident for at least 30 days. Find out more on the town's website.
The deadline to file as a voter in the election is Wednesday of next week, Dec. 15. An important note is that state voter registration is not relevant to the Greenwood election. Residents who want to vote have to register separately with the town. A form is available on the town website, and residents need to bring the form to Town Hall along with proof of age, town residency for at least 30 days, and U.S. citizenship.
